The Impact of drug trafficking in the economies of Central Asian Countries

Abstract Narcotics and its international smuggling is a problem for the world. This phenomenon has slowed down, and in cases has stopped the pace of development. The end of the cold war and collapse of the Soviets Union is one of the most important events at the end of 20th century, which has kept a strong impact on all aspects of the region. The drug trafficking could pose some consequences in the economies of the regional governments such as the instability in the capital market, the shadow economy, weakening the government and to boost terrorism financing. This paper aims at describing the role of drug trafficking in economy of Central Asia and steps taken to fight against.
